It’s no secret that having confidence is a vital asset when it comes to tumbling. In fact, an athlete that isn’t confident in themselves or their environment will not throw their skill or pass.

Luckily, confidence isn’t something you have to be born with, it can be developed.

And when it comes to the back handspring, making sure you (or your athletes) learn a proper back limber is the perfect way to build up a massive amount of confidence for going backwards.

Besides building confidence, a back limber also allows me to check for any shaping issues so I can fix them sooner rather than later.

Here are some prerequisites I look for before teaching Back Limbers:

  • Back Walkover
  • Back Bend
  • 30s Handstand (against wall)
  • 30s Bridge hold

Until next time, train hard, eat well and stay fierce!
