28 Tumbling Drills You Can Do With Landing / Crash Mats
The landing mat (also known as a crash mat) is a must-have tool in any tumbling gym or program. That’s because the improper or hard landings are the primary reasons for tumbling injuries. I’ve never seen anyone injure themselves initiating a back handsprings. But we’ve all seen plenty of athletes land them incorrectly, where a landing mat would’ve saved them. Best of all, they can be stacked to come up with some very useful tumbling drills to improve technique and master new ones. The 8-inch (~20 cm) thickness is standard, but the 4 inch (~10 cm) landing mats are also highly useful, especially when athletes want to try skills on the floor for the first time.
