Good coaches constantly educate themselves because new approaches and perspectives can benefit both them and their athletes. Coaches who believe they have nothing left to learn may stagnate, while those who remain open to growth continue to build upon their skills. Even after 20 years in the field, there’s always something new to discover or improve. This is exactly why checking prerequisite skills is such a critical step. Without confirming that an athlete has the necessary strength, body awareness, and mastery of foundational movements, coaches risk pushing them into skills they’re not prepared for, leading to fear, bad habits, or stalled progress. Skipping this evaluation not only jeopardizes the athlete’s safety but also reflects poorly on the coach’s expertise. If a coach consistently shows up late, is distracted on their phone, or doesn’t appear fully engaged, athletes will notice, and they’ll start to mirror that behaviour. You can’t expect athletes to give 100% effort if you, as their coach, aren’t doing the same. Athletes thrive under consistent leadership and clear expectations. When a coach shows up prepared and fully present, it encourages athletes to take their training seriously.
[/et_pb_text][et_pb_text admin_label=”Mistake 30″ _builder_version=”4.27.4″ header_2_font=”|600|||||||” custom_margin=”20px||||false|false” custom_padding=”35px||||false|false” text_font_size_tablet=”” text_font_size_phone=”18px” text_font_size_last_edited=”on|phone” header_2_font_size_tablet=”” header_2_font_size_phone=”26px” header_2_font_size_last_edited=”on|phone” global_colors_info=”{}”]

#30 Pressure To Gain Skills

Pressure to Gain Skills is a harmful coaching approach because it prioritizes fast progress over safety.
