Helping cheerleaders and gymnasts understand their natural twisting direction should be one of the first things that a coach should look into when a new athlete walks through their doors.
Why?
Because it has a ripple-effect on almost every skill they’ll be working on. Their twisting direction basically determines the fate of their cartwheel, round-off, front walkover, back walkover, arabian and of course, their fulls and doubles.
While it’s not the end of the world if a left-twisting athlete that ends up learning a right leg round off, it can definitely have consequences that will make learning harder tricks a bigger challenge than it should be. So to discuss this topic in detail, IÂ invited my friends from Perfect A Flip for a chat.
